Nothing has been finalized yet: Korean chipmaker
SK hynix said Wednesday that no decisions have been made regarding potential cooperation with Intel or plans to produce memory chips in the United States, seeking to refute an earlier Reuters report that the two companies were in talks over possible US production.
"SK hynix is exploring various options to strengthen its global competitiveness, but no specific plans or arrangements have been finalized at this time," the company said in a statement.
The company specifically denied that any decisions had been made regarding the two scenarios mentioned in the Reuters report, which claimed that SK hynix would potentially be leasing part of Intel’s long-planned semiconductor manufacturing facility in Ohio or it would be forming a joint venture with Intel and major cloud companies looking for stable memory supplies.
"No decisions have been made regarding the two scenarios mentioned in the article," SK hynix said.
"Nothing has been finalized regarding cooperation with any specific companies mentioned in the article or memory chip production in the US."
The Korean chipmaker is in the process of building a $4 billion advanced packaging facility for artificial intelligence chips in Indiana, which borders Ohio.
